CES 2008 just revealed a new product from Maxtor which involves encrypting data on your external hard drives at a government level. Many times you don't want people to access sensitive files backed up to your external hard drive. Maxtor is releasing a new product that lets you automatically encrypt files on a 160GB external drive.

Black Armor uses government grade AES made by NIST to deliver the strongest protection. Sometimes encryption really slows down performance, but they've figured a way so it doesn't. This will be a great addition for those with sensitive files.

The Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus 750 GB is the largest hard drive in the one touch family. This one is great for storing large amounts of data such as videos and music. The great thing about this drive is that it comes with a 15 MB cache buffer which lets you transfer files much faster which is important with large files.

750 GB lets you store 240,000 digital photos, 750 hours of digital video. The best part is that Maxtor adds a 5 year warranty which keeps your investment safe and sound.

Digital Trends recently did a review of the Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus. They did a complete review and were overall very impressed with all the features of the Maxtor One Touch.

The main things they were impressed with was the simple operation, the features, system recovery feature, and the ability for the drive to work with Macs. They did find some drawbacks in that they had to manually save mail and they couldn't sync between XP and Vista.

Overall, they enjoyed the device and would recommend it to everyone.

The major difference between Maxtor One Touch III and 4 is the built in software that Maxtor provides. On the whole I'd recommend getting Maxtor One Touch 4 since it has better support. Also, the encasing seems to be more robust on the newer generation.
